Twitter continues to make changes; the company’s eternally puzzling verification redesign has now taken on a new shape, with brand profiles now being square to display them better in-stream.
In contrast to the circle profiles for regular users, brand profiles are now displayed as square tiles, as you can see in the Twitter that social media analyst Matt Navarra shared below.
These new square tiles add another level of assurance because users will eventually realize that objective, official brand profiles appear as squares rather than circles in the app.
Twitter has since added gold checkmarks for brands (which also recently underwent an update) to counter this but in contrast, these checkmarks cannot be purchased.
It provides an additional layer of defense against impersonation. This makes sense, but only when viewed in the larger context of the first verification redesign, which makes no sense on its own and was an initially confused, misinformed, and uninformed strategy.
More security against impersonation can only be a positive thing, though, considering that Twitter has decided to go down that route. However, in order to use the new format, your business avatar may need to be updated.
Oh, and there’s this as well:
As per Twitter:
“As a Twitter Blue for Business subscriber, a company can link any number of their affiliated individuals, businesses and brands to their account. When they do, affiliated accounts will get a small badge of their parent company’s profile picture next to their blue or gold checkmark.”
Twitter says it will keep adding new features to the program to help brands get more out of their Twitter experience, but it hasn’t revealed the cost for Blue for Business.
