Susan Wojcicki, the CEO of YouTube and one of the original Google workers, announced her resignation from the digital company that she helped start in her garage 25 years ago in a personal update on Thursday. Insider Neal Mohan will take over for Wojcicki. The change of leadership occurs as Netflix and TikTok, a popular app for short videos, compete for viewer attention with YouTube.
The 54-year-old Wojcicki stated that her priorities are “family, health, and personal initiatives.” In 2014, she was appointed CEO of YouTube from her previous position as senior vice president for advertising products at Google.
A well-known IT executive in the area of digital advertising is Neal Mohan. He served as YouTube’s Chief Product Officer and oversaw the company’s advertising and creator products as well as product management, design, engineering, and operations.
Mohan spent more than eight years at Google before joining YouTube in 2013, where he played a key role in the development of the business’ display advertising technologies, including DoubleClick, AdSense, and AdWords. He had previously worked at Microsoft, where he contributed to the creation of the organization’s online advertising platform.
Mohan is regarded as one of the most important players in digital advertising and has made a number of industry lists, including Business Insider’s 25 Most Influential Persons in Mobile Advertising and Adweek’s 50 Indispensable Executives in Marketing, Media, and Tech.
