World Heritage Day- Heritage Meets Modern Technology at NMACC

World Heritage Day is celebrated on the 18th of April every year to honour the monuments and sites throughout the world. Every year this day comes with a dedicated theme- Heritage Changes is the theme for the year. And what better symbolises the changing heritage than NMACC-The Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre in Mumbai?

The Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre has been in the news since its inauguration on 31st March 2023. The latest landmark in the city of dreams, took the world by storm since its inception. There is so much said and written about NMACC and its star-studded beginning, but limiting the gigantic treasure of Indian heritage and culture with only glitz and glamour seems a bit unfair.

NMACC as an upgrade to cultural space

NMACC is a one-of-a-kind cultural centre not just in Mumbai but also in the whole of India. It is both a symbol of architectural excellence and a one-stop experience for centuries of Indian heritage and history.

In a country like India, where our Museums are as old as the artefacts placed inside them, NMACC will be a pioneer in infrastructural innovation, deploying the latest know-how. This will help in attracting the young crowd whereas museums, on the other hand, are frequented by a limited section of the population. This will open avenues to study the rich heritage and culture of India using modern technology.

Nita Ambani’s visionary approach behind NMACC

The Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre is the brainchild of Mrs Nita Ambani who envisions this centre as a place to preserve and promote Indian heritage, culture, art forms and traditions. NMACC will act as a bridge connecting various talents, both within the country and the world.

Nita Ambani is a trained Bharatnatyam dancer, a classical Indian dance form, and after experiencing art this close, and working with many artists in the capacity of being the leading lady of Reliance Foundation, she understands the importance of valuing art. NMACC is her way to give back to art and build a platform for the community.

Understanding NMACC

The Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre is built in the Jio World Centre in the Bandra-Kurla Complex. The enormous structure comes with a Grand Theatre, various different halls, a 4-storey art house, a pavilion and a museum-like convertible area of 52,627 sq. ft to showcase shows on performing and visual arts. NMACC is a fully functional space and has shows lined up for all days of the week. It will host workshops and many other events in the various spaces enclosed within the structural sensation.

The Grand Theatre

An unparalleled marvel, the Grand Theatre is as grand as it gets. With a seating capacity of 2000 people, this space draws a resemblance to Oprah. The stunning Dolby Atmos Sound System along with Virtual Acoustic System and Controlled Lighting System, will create a magical experience for the audience.

Not limited to this, the Grand Theatre is also embellished with 8400+ Swarovski crystals, dazzling all those in its vicinity. The theatre also has 18 Diamond boxes, a private section to make you feel like royalty. This section includes a complementary suite and exclusive F&B services.

The Grand Theatre is equipped to host global touring house and travelling productions. The Opening Spectacle, ‘The Great Indian Musical’ by Feroz Abbas Khan was the first performance and its grandeur stunned the audience. For the first time in India, award-winning, International Broadway Musical will perform ‘The Sound of Music’ at the Grand Theatre.

The Sound Theatre

The Sound Theatre is a space ideal for intimate events with a seating capacity of 250 persons. The highlight here is the transformation stage, which can be transformed as per the needs of the show.

It also comes with a Dolby Atmos Sound System and the best part is, it is completely soundproof. The tension wire grid is the first-of-its-kind lighting system available at the Sound Theatre. This will ease the operational time during shows.

The Cube

The tiniest of the lot, The Cube has a seating provision for 125 people, ideal for emerging artists including spoken word, music and theatre art. It is 5G enabled and thereby an ideal space for recording, filming or streaming shows.

The Cube also comes with the latest technology including a Laser Projection System and an Assisted Lighting System that will make the experience out of the world, both for its performers and its audience.

The Art House

The Art House is a 4-storeyed building which has 16000 sq ft of the area dedicated to Indian and Global art. The Modular facade is built in line with the global museum specifications and can be used for workshops and programmes and educational happenings.

The Art House is right next to the beautiful Fountain of Joy, a fountain that creates a magical experience for its visitors using the latest technology in the light and sound industry.

All of it said, the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre is truly an embodiment of pride for the Indian nation and its people. The space is an earnest effort to showcase Indian art and its heritage in all its glory and create a stage for the global artist, allowing Indians a never-seen-before exposure. This centre is a step towards showcasing India’s rich heritage to the world as well as bringing award-winning international performances to India.

Stay tuned for more such updates.
