Zeenat Aman- From a Veteran to Being a Trend

Zeenat Khan, popularly known as Zeenat Aman, is Bollywood Actress and model from the yesteryears. She is credited for glamorising Bollywood female characters and creating a strong presence for actresses in those times when movies were hero-centric. Known as the ‘sex symbol’ of her time, she is known and appreciated for her bold and unconventional roles. Now her Instagram account is the holy book for GenZs, to be your true self.

Zeenat Ji before Bollywood

Zeenat Aman was born as Zeenat Khan on 19th November 1951 to Amanullah Khan and Scinda Vardhini Karvaste. Her father was a screenwriter and it was through him she saw the glamour world. When she was 13 years old, she lost her father. Later, to honour him she adopted “Aman” as her last name which was her father’s pen name.

In the year 1970, Zeenat Ji stood second in the Femina Miss India beauty pageant winning the title of First Princess.  In the same year, she won the Miss Asia Pacific International Pageant at the nascent age of 19.

The Bollywood Diva

The relationship between Bollywood and beauty has been strong from the very beginning. Son after Zeenat Ji made a mark in the beauty industry by winning different pageants and bagging modelling assignments, she was recognised and approached by Bollywood. Though her tenure as an actress has been a short one, she has still managed to do more than 100 films. Her roles in Hare Ram Hare Krishna, Yaadon ki Baaraat, Don, Satyam Shivam Sundaram and Qurbani are spoken of to date and said to be guidebooks for all those who aspire to become an actor.

The Fighter

As soon, as Zeenat Ji entered Bollywood, she thought she would make it big but her initial three films did not do well. In fact, they were a big miss. However, instead of giving up, Zeenat Ji chose to stick by and in 1971 did Hare Ram Hare Krishna with Dev Anand Ji and this movie turned out to be a huge success. It is said that this is one of the biggest movies of its time. Zeenat Ji also won the Filmfare award for her role.

Her fighter spirit did not limit to her professional life but also continued to her personal life. She has seen troubled marriages and was struggling in her relationships but she dealt with them gracefully.

Zeenat Khan has two sons Zahaan Khan and Azaan Khan. As a single mother, Zennat Ji was at the receiving end of society’s brutality but this did not deter her from being a doting mother. On her Instagram handle, she shares an unseen picture from when her children were very young and pens down a heartfelt note. Her description of Motherhood is so honest and real. Instead of painting a rosy picture, she calls motherhood, “exhilarating, overwhelming, joyous and challenging.”

Since her debut in February, Zeenat Ji has made quite a mark on Instagram trending with every new post she uploads. Her throwback pictures still drive the masses crazy. In a world where everybody is ready to lock horns, she is seen speaking about all things in such a respectful manner, it feels like a breath of fresh air.
