Sufi Motiwala’s Childhood
While we know Sufi is all expressive & elegant, was baby Sufi the same or different from what he is today? “Baby Sufi was full-on bullied. I mean, I remember school and madrasa, religious classes— I was fully bullied throughout. But I was thriving in social things like I was the host of the annual day. I never came first; I always used to come second, which I think is the story of my life.
Other than that, I was just very busy; I had such a busy routine that I didn’t do anything. I would go from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm for school, 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm for madrasa, and then 5:30 pm to 8 pm would be tuition, and then my day would be over,” Sufi said.
“When I was really young, my mom & I used to sit and watch every Barbie movie or every Pokémon movie ever. I think being around the TV is a big part of my current life. Would you believe it? I had the whole Harry Potter wand collection,” he added.
Hot Take On Mumbai ft Sufi
We heard somewhere that Sufi never wanted to move to Mumbai, but why? “I was just being a diva. You know, I always knew I was going to shift here. Mumbai was actually my first college preference as well. However, Mumbai is extremely hot. I just left my house, and while waiting for the cab, I started sweating within a minute. It’s a nightmare, and the traffic’s a nightmare too.
Everyone always keeps saying, “Oh my God, Mumbai stinks,” but every metropolitan area is going to stink because a million people are living there, so you can’t complain about that. Other than that, Mumbai is beautiful—there are lovely places to eat, lovely people, and lovely things to do.” Sufi expressed.
Passion For Fashion
Realizing a passion for fashion, Sufi aimed to study it further, initially applying to the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) but ultimately attending a different college. He soon began creating content due to his boredom with the Indian education system, while he didn’t adequately cover fashion journalism. Although he appreciated learning practical skills like stitching and fabric identification.
Sufi said, “My first video on Instagram was an 18th birthday vlog, and the first time I saw real success was when I used a popular audio clip. Things really took off when I posted a review of Alia Bhatt’s wedding, which led me to start sharing daily reviews that my audience really connected with.”
“My personal taste in fashion has two types: First, what I like to see—I love feminine energy in fashion. I love a good dress, I love a good pair of heels, I love a good bag beautifully styled with accessories. Secondly, I love avant-garde, over-the-top stuff, colour prints, gold tassels coming off from the skirt with a bustle, and whatever nonsense—like, give me the drama, give me camp. Love that,” he added.
Is Reddit Toxic?
Reddit is a social media platform where users share content, ask questions, and discuss topics in niche communities called subreddits. Related to it, Sufi addresses the often toxic environment on platforms like Reddit, where he encountered baseless rumors & harsh criticism.
He recognises the validity of public opinions but wishes for viewers to understand the distinction between personal style & professional commentary. Sufis believe that how a person dresses shouldn’t affect their ability to judge others’ fashion choices.
“It is important to maintain healthy boundaries and mutual respect for opinions without crossing lines. I’ll also pledge here on The Social Nation Show to be nicer with my content if you promise to be nicer to me. Listen, guys, let’s all be nice,” Sufi urges.
Welcome To The Sufi Squad!
Talking about his community, a lot of his community comprises industry people from fashion who watch him just for knowledge; some people watch for fun. “I’ve always noticed that hate always persists on the internet, but in real life, everybody’s just way kinder. And even on the internet, you’ll realize that the people who hate are the ones who often leave the comments.
But the people who actually love you will leave you really sweet messages in your DMs. So it’s really endearing. Online and offline, whenever I’ve gone to meet someone from the industry, they’ve always been very kind,” Sufi expressed his awe-xperience.
“Other than that, when it comes to the audience, I think the audience is just crazy, and I love them. Now, wherever I go, I at least meet two or three people who love my content. They’re always really sweet, and it caters to my ego. That’s what you want at the end of the day,” he added.
Who Is Sufi Beyond Instagram?
Sufi stated, “I’m mostly either going out somewhere with a friend or just driving around for no reason, or I’m glued to my TV like I’m a 5-year-old. I’ll watch the most random things on YouTube or anything.
Additionally, I also listen to Russian music, I watch some person cooking something in an easy-bake oven for 30 minutes. Maybe I’m ADHD, so I just keep watching the TV. I’ll go from a cartoon like Shinchan to Vogue videos about skincare in 5 minutes—you have no idea the range I am capable of consuming is bizarre!”
